Discover the Best Free Minecraft Server Hosts

By 10xdev team July 21, 2025

In this article, we'll guide you through several of the best free Minecraft server hosts available.

1. Aternos

Aternos stands out as one of the most popular free Minecraft server hosts. To get started, navigate to aternos.org and click the play button to sign up for a free account.

Creating Your Server

Once your account is set up, you can create a server. On the servers page, click "Create." You can then select between a Java or a Bedrock server and customize its name.

After hitting "Create," you have options to change the server software and version. To launch the server, you'll need to accept the EULA and may need to watch a brief ad, which is how the service remains free.

Server Features and Connection

After the server starts, you can copy its address to connect. Aternos provides a variety of features on the left-hand menu, including:

  • Options: General server settings.
  • Console: For server commands and monitoring.
  • Software: To change server types (e.g., Spigot, Forge).
  • Mods & Plugins: Easily install enhancements.

You get access to 2,400 MB of RAM for your server.

To join, follow these steps: 1. Copy the server address from the Aternos dashboard. 2. In Minecraft, go to Multiplayer > Direct Connection. 3. Paste the address and click Join Server.

You will then load into your new Aternos server.

2. Minehut

A second excellent free host is Minehut. Head over to minehut.com and select "Server Hosting" in the top right to either log in or sign up.

Setting Up Your Server

  1. Once logged in, click Create Server.
  2. Give your server a name (e.g., guide-real-high) and press Create.
  3. Your new server will appear in your dashboard. Click Activate to start it up.

After the server starts, you can explore various sections like the File Manager or change the server version to install mods. To get the server IP, simply hover to the right of your server name and click the address to copy it.

Joining the Game

Paste the IP into Minecraft to join. Upon entering, you may be prompted to accept a custom resource pack and agree to the terms of service by selecting your age. Once completed, you are free to play on your server.

3. Minefort

Our third host is Minefort. Visit minefort.com and click "Get Started for Free" in the top right to create an account.

Server Creation and Management

After signing up, you can create a server. Name it (e.g., guide-realm) and choose between a default server or a pre-built template, which is a neat feature. Once you click Create, your server dashboard becomes available.

Minefort offers numerous management tools: - Appearance - Plugins - Backups - Files - Properties (for world settings, game mode, difficulty, etc.) - Sub-users - Shop & Upgrades

To launch your server, click the Start Server button in the top right. Once it's online, you can easily add plugins or modify properties.

Connecting to Your Server

Grab the server IP from the dashboard by clicking the copy button. Paste it into Minecraft and click Join Server to connect and start playing.

4. Server.pro

The fourth host we're covering is Server.pro. On their site, click "Try our free Minecraft servers" and select the free plan.

Configuration and Setup

During setup, you will configure the following: - Game: Java or Bedrock - Version: Your desired Minecraft version - Location: Choose the region closest to you. - Hostname: A custom name for your server (e.g., guide-realm).

After finalizing these details and creating an account, click Create Server.

Dashboard and Server Launch

The server dashboard provides access to many features, including advanced settings, file management, console, player lists, plugins, and world settings. On the Server Details page, you can set the game mode (e.g., Creative) and save your changes.

To start the server, press the power button in the top left. Once it's running, copy the hostname or IP address.

Joining Your Server

In Minecraft, paste the copied address and click Join Server to load into your world.

5. Scalacube

Another free hosting solution is Scalacube. Visit scalacube.com, go to Minecraft Server Hosting, and click "View full listed plans" to find the free option.

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Click Get your server on the free plan.
  2. Choose your game: Java or Bedrock (Pocket Edition).
  3. Select a server location.
  4. Pick your game server version (e.g., Standard Minecraft 1.20.2).
  5. Confirm the free plan and IP address option.
  6. Decide if you want a backup (optional).
  7. Sign up for an account to complete the process.

Note: You may need to complete a CAPTCHA or enter a verification code. Server configuration can sometimes take up to 24 hours.

Managing and Joining Your Server

Once your server is available, go to Servers in your dashboard, select your server, and click Manage Server. You may need to confirm the version and click Install.
